About StemBook

stem book cells

StemBook is an open access collection of scientific information in the field of stem cell biology, and is compiled, written and reviewed by top researchers in the field.

StemBook aims to connect researchers, to foster collaboration, and to advance the global understanding of stem cell science. Its content is divided into review articles, protocols and other lab-relevant information, preprint search and alerts and news.

Background

StemBook was launched in 2008 by the Harvard Stem Cell Institute in collaboration with the MIND Informatics group at Massachusetts General Hospital. Long lasting collaboration with Stem Cell COREdinates was initiated.

In 2017, StemBook was acquired by IOS Press which relaunched the site in 2018. When IOS Press was subsequently acquired by SAGE Publishing in 2023, who decided to discontinue StemBook’s publication. Since then, the Vitana Group has taken over the publication of StemBook. In collaboration with the Stem Cell COREdinates group and others, our goal is to further increase global impact and engagement, and to evolve StemBook into a leading,. dynamic platform applying new design principles, AI-driven creation and review, innovative publishing formats, and adoption of the FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) principles for seamless integration with global scientific repositories.
